John M. York, PharmD, MBA brings over 30 years in the biopharma industry as an executive, consultant, educator, researcher, and entrepreneur. His corporate experience includes assignment of growing responsibility at Bristol Myers Squibb, Amgen, and Allergan. His entrepreneurial and consulting experience spans 20 years, starting Akita Biomedical, OREC, and MD Eyecare. Ophthalmic experience includes Allergan, OREC, Merck, Alcon, Santen, Biotissue, MD Eyecare, and Vitreo. He currently runs Akita Biomedical and serves at University of California, San Diego as lead faculty member for the National Science Foundation Innovation Corps, Medtech accelerator, StartBlue accelerator, and translational medicine certificate capstone programs. York also maintains faculty appointments with the Rutgers Pharmaceutical Industry Postdoctoral Fellowships and the Ahmedabad University EMBA at the Amrut Mody School of Management. He works closely with leading entrepreneurship educators and programs. He has published over 35 peer review papers in the entrepreneurship, strategy, and medical areas. York has led medical communication programs with over 160 peer review papers, including 14 translational program publications with Reviva Pharmaceutical. His most recent works include five papers in the Journal of Commercial Biotechnology, including his recent invited talk at Bio International. He sits on the scientific advisory board of JD Bioscience, and consults with Santen, Teikoku Pharma USA, Ting Pharmaceutical, Vyluma, and HRA Pharma. He serves as advisor to the chief executives of Ting Pharma and JD Bioscience. These clients routinely call on York for commercial analysis, customer discovery, strategy, marketing, and communication skills training. York maintains a strong network of California-based venture capitalists and business development executives to share his growing portfolio of life science startups for investment. He is also pursuing a doctorate in management with an emphasis in entrepreneurship at the Cranfield School of Management in the United Kingdom.
